EDISON, NJ — There were two incidents of violence at the Menlo Park mall over this past weekend:

First, Edison Police Chief Thomas Bryan confirmed a large fight broke out in the food court of Menlo Park mall at about 5:30 p.m. Monday, with one teenager from Newark arrested and charged with assault (no gun was discharged, contrary to social media rumors).

However, the police chief also released information about an incident that happened last Saturday night in the McDonald's parking lot directly behind the mall:

At about 9:30 p.m. Feb. 17, Edison Police received a 911 call from a teen who said he was being chased by a group of teens; he said they started chasing him either in the mall or in the mall parking lot. The caller said one of the men was brandishing a firearm while pursuing him.

Edison Police responded and arrested six people total in the McDonald's parking lot: Two adults and four juveniles, most of them from Plainfield. Two guns were also recovered.

Chief Bryan said he was proud of the work his officers did, as one of the guns was a "ghost gun," which is a gun that is untraceable, not registered and that anyone can purchase without having to undergo a background check.

Bryan said Menlo Park has been quiet lately, except for these two incidents this past weekend.
