After Primary Race, General Election Showdown Set In Edison For Fall

The field is set for November's general election in Edison, after thousands cast their ballots in Tuesday's primary election.

EDISON, NJ — The four Democratic Council candidates who were supported by the Middlesex County Democratic Organization, swept the 2023 Primary Election race in Edison, according to unofficial results from Middlesex County.

They beat their challengers, Robert Kentos and Lav Patel, who were endorsed by the Edison Democratic Organization, but not given the County line. Kentos got 3,583 votes, while Patel received 3,833.

Brescher was the highest vote-getter with 5,825 votes, followed by Shmuel at 5,318, Coyle at 4,957 and Patil at 4,530.

They will now face Republican Township Council candidates Russell Azzarello, Paul Bravo, Meredith Mathews and Gerald Shine in November. The Republican Party primary in Edison was uncontested.

Also in the running will Councilwoman Joyce Ship-Freeman who did not receive an endorsement from the Edison Democratic Organization, but will run as an independent candidate.

The Middlesex County clerk has not certified the Primary race totals. To make the tally official, the final certification of the results must be done on June 19.
