(Township of Edison)

EDISON, NJ — Hackensack Meridian Health JFK University Medical Center is seeking approval to convert a former Rite Aid on Route 27 into medical offices, according to a township notice.

The hospital has applied to the Edison Planning Board for preliminary and final site plan approval for the property at 10 Lincoln Highway, at the corner of Route 27 and James Street.

The Rite Aid at the location closed last year. The property is identified as Block 643.31, Lot 17.27 on the township tax map and is located in a general business district.

Plans call for site improvements including additional parking. The applicant is proposing 62 parking spaces, though 104 are required under township standards, necessitating a parking variance. Variances may also be needed for the height of a freestanding sign and building facade signs.

The existing pylon sign, building signage and wayfinding signs would be modified or replaced to reflect the change in use.

The Planning Board is scheduled to hear the application at its May 18 meeting.
