EDISON, NJ — Middlesex County's 2026 Plays-in-the-Park season continues with a production of "1776," running nightly at 8 p.m. from Wednesday, July 8, through Saturday, July 18, at the Stephen J. Capestro Theatre in Roosevelt Park. There are no Sunday performances.
The musical follows John Adams, Benjamin Franklin and Thomas Jefferson as they work to convince the Second Continental Congress to vote for independence from Britain and sign the Declaration of Independence during the summer of 1776.
Tickets are sold only in-person at the theater box office on the day of each performance; there are no advance or online sales. The ticket booth opens at 5:30 p.m. and closes at 8:30 p.m. each show night. Ticket prices are $8 for adults, $5 for seniors 60 and over, and free for children 12 and under. Attendees must bring their own lawn chair with a back no higher than 40 inches.
In the event of inclement weather, ticketholders can use their stub for admission to another performance during the season.
The Middlesex County Board of County Commissioners offers complimentary admission to active U.S. military service members and their immediate families for any performance. Veterans and their immediate families can receive complimentary tickets on Monday and Tuesday performances of each show.
Attendees are encouraged to bring non-perishable food donations to support REPLENISH and Feeding Middlesex County, which will have a table at each performance to benefit local families facing food insecurity.
