METUCHEN, NJ — The Metuchen Shade Tree Commission is inviting volunteers to help trim the borough's street trees at "Metuchen Tree Time," a community event set for Saturday, July 11, with a rain date of Sunday morning.
The event kicks off at 9:30 a.m. with coffee with the commissioners at the Charles Field parking lot, followed by volunteer sign-in at 9:45 a.m., where all participants are required to sign a waiver. Volunteers will head out to limb-up, trim and saw trees starting at 10 a.m., before wrapping up with clean-up and reflection at noon.
Organizers are asking volunteers to wear a bright-colored shirt, boots or sneakers, and work or garden gloves, and to bring sharp tools if they have them, including bow saws, loppers and pruners. All adult volunteers will be assessed and trained on their tree-trimming skills, and organizers said no children under 12 will be allowed to participate.
Residents interested in volunteering can sign up through the Metuchen Tree Time sign-up form. Questions can be directed to shadetreecommission@metuchen.com.
The event is sponsored by the Metuchen Shade Tree Commission and the Metuchen Environmental Commission.
