1. 43 Edison Students Named National Merit Semifinalists (patch.com) β Edison families have plenty to celebrate as 43 local students from Edison Academy Magnet, Edison High, John P. Stevens, and Wardlaw-Hartridge have been named National Merit Scholarship semifinalists. These high-achieving seniors now move forward in a prestigious national competition for scholarships to be awarded next spring.

2. Motorcyclist Critically Injured in Collision Outside of Menlo Park Mall on Labor Day (tapinto.net) β A motorcyclist was critically injured Monday afternoon in a collision at Parsonage Road and Menlo Park Mall Drive in Edison, near the Menlo Park Mall entrance. Edison Police say the 31-year-old Metuchen rider struck a turning KIA Sportage, was thrown about 35 feet, and suffered severe head trauma before being taken to RWJ Hospital; the department's Serious Crash Investigation Team is still examining the incident.

3. Indian Restaurant That Replaced Menlo Park Diner Closes After Fire (patch.com) β House of Bombay, the new Indian restaurant that just replaced the longtime Menlo Park Diner on Route 1 in Edison, has temporarily closed after a fire while the restaurant was shut. No one was hurt, but all reservations from Sept. 5 onward are canceled, with refunds available for anyone mistakenly charged. Owners say they'll share a reopening timeline once damage and safety issues are resolved.

September 4th: This Day in History (blogspot.com) β A sprawling "this day in history" roundup briefly spotlights the Thomas Edison monuments at Menlo Park in Edison, tying local landmarks to the inventor's Pearl Street power station milestone in 1882. While most of the piece ranges across world events, it offers residents a reminder of Edison's role in early electric power and the historic sites right in their backyard.
