Authorities ID Edison Man Killed In Police-Involved Shooting
The AG's office has identified the man killed in the police-involved shooting, including the officers who discharged their weapons.
EDISON, NJ — The Attorney General’s office on Wednesday identified the man fatally shot by police on April 12 in Edison as Merrill Rambarose, 49.
The officers who fired their weapons at Rambarose have been identified as Officer Daniel Bradley and Officer Joseph Elqumos of the Edison Police Department, AG Matthew J. Platkin said.
According to the preliminary investigation, the shooting occurred shortly after 3:45 p.m. on April 12, at Judson Street, Edison. Edison Police Officers were called to a residence where they encountered Rambarose in a parking lot, Platkin said.

During the encounter, Bradley and Elqumos "discharged their service weapons, fatally wounding Mr. Rambarose. A short-handled axe was recovered near Mr. Rambarose," Platkin said.
Officers and emergency medical personnel rendered first aid to Rambarose, who was pronounced dead at the scene at 4:41 p.m.

The AG's Office is conducting an investigation into the shooting pursuant to Attorney General Directive 2019-4, which implements the statutory requirement that the Attorney General’s Office conduct the investigation of any death that occurs during an encounter with a law enforcement officer acting in the officer’s official capacity or while the decedent is in custody.
