Edison Police Visit ABA Centers of New Jersey to Promote Autism Safety Awareness

EDISON, N.J. — Detectives Christopher DiPaolo and Devan Mulligan of the Edison Police Department visited the ABA Centers of New Jersey Edison clinic on Thursday, May 21, 2026, spending the afternoon with children and young adults with autism while promoting community safety and positive police interactions.During the visit, the detectives gave students an up-close look at a police vehicle, demonstrated the sirens, and showed the children how officers use police radios while on duty. The students also had the opportunity to ask questions about police work and take turns sitting inside the patrol car.Detectives DiPaolo and Mulligan distributed Edison Police Department backpacks and coloring books to all of the children and spoke with students about personal safety, dangerous situations, and when it is important to call 911. The detectives discussed the types of emergencies officers respond to and explained how police help keep the community safe.The visit continued upstairs during circle time, where the detectives were recognized as community heroes while students listened to a reading of the book “They’re Heroes Too.The event also provided an opportunity for the detectives to learn more about children and individuals with autism while helping educate students about community awareness and emergency safety.
