MVC Returning To South Plainfield Next Month

The new location will replace the Oak Tree Road MVC, which closed last May.

SOUTH PLAINFIELD, NJ — A year after South Plainfield's Department of Motor Vehicles Office closed, a new one will open in the town.

The new location will open at 5000 Hadley Avenue, near Middlesex Mall. Residents can start using the new location on May 14, TapInto Piscataway reported.

"I must complement the NJ Motor Vehicle Commission for ending this potential crisis and express my appreciation for their resolve in re-establishing an office in South Plainfield as one of their top priorities," State Senator Patrick Diegnan said. "My colleagues, Nancy Pinkin and Robert Karabinchak, and my constituents have been as adamant as I have been about re-opening a South Plainfield location and I look forward to the ribbon cutting."

After the the old location, located near the Unique on Oak Tree Road, closed, the closest MVC location for residents was the one on Kilmer Road, known for its exceptionally long wait-times. Some residents made the drive to Somerville, increasing wait times and causing traffic headaches at that location, MyCentralJersey reported.

The old Oak Tree Road location closed after the landlord decline to renew the lease past May 2017. It closed on May 13, 2017.
