Driver Killed In Multi-Vehicle Crash On NJ Turnpike In Edison

3 people were injured in the crash that is under investigation.

EDISON, NJ — A Perth Amboy man was killed early Sunday morning after a multi-vehicle crash on the New Jersey Turnpike in Edison, New Jersey State Police said.

The crash happened around 4:02 a.m. near milepost 88.9 on the southbound Turnpike in Middlesex County.

Alan B. Cahuanasayhua, 31, was driving a BMW SUV south on the Turnpike when he struck a Chevrolet pickup truck that was parked on the right shoulder, police said. A Lexus SUV then rear-ended the BMW, pushing both vehicles into a concrete barrier. A Mazda SUV struck the back of the BMW as well.

Cahuanasayhua was ejected from the vehicle and died from his injuries. The drivers of the Chevrolet, Lexus and Mazda each sustained minor injuries and were taken to area hospitals, police said.

A passenger in the Chevrolet pickup was also present at the time of the crash. Their condition was not immediately available.

The crash remains under investigation, state police said.
