Early Dismissal For Metuchen Public Schools Due To Intense Heat

The school district could have additional early dismissals due to intense heat in the next few days, the Superintendent said.

METUCHEN, NJ — Tuesday was the first day of school for Metuchen students, but it was cut short due to intense heat in the state.

Metuchen Public Schools will have an early dismissal as temperatures hit 93 on Tuesday afternoon. The next few days could also see similar early dismissals.

"With temperatures forecast for the low to mid-90s all week, please have alternate plans in case we need additional early dismissal days," Superintendent Vincent Caputo told the district.

The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory through Wednesday for most of New Jersey including Metuchen.

Temperatures in the upper 90s is expected with a heat index of more than 100 degrees. High temperatures on Thursday and Friday are anticipated to be above 90 degrees as well, according to the forecast.

Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses to occur, the NWS said.
