Early Dismissal In Metuchen Schools For The Week Due To Excessive Heat
The school district has switched its schedule for the rest of the week as a result of rising temperatures.
METUCHEN, NJ - Students from Metuchen Public Schools will have early dismissal the entire week due to excessive heat in the state.
The first day of school on Wednesday was cut short for students as temperatures reached 95 degrees.
"We had a great first day. With record-setting temperatures continuing, the Metuchen Public Schools will operate on a planned early dismissal schedule for the entire week," Superintendent Vincent Caputo told the community. "We know this creates issues for parents and we appreciate your understanding."

Middlesex County has been placed on a heat advisory as heat indices are set to reach over 100 degrees in many areas across the state, according to the National Weather Service.
“Simply put, the next several days will be dangerously hot,” the National Weather Service said. “During a heat wave, practice heat safety wherever you are. Heat related deaths and illnesses are preventable!”

Thursday Night: A chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 2 a.m. Mostly cloudy, with a low of around 73. South wind 5 to 10 mph. The chance of precipitation is 30 percent. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
Friday: A chance of showers and thunderstorms after 11 a.m. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 90. South wind 5 to 10 mph. The chance of precipitation is 50 percent. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
Friday Night: A chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a low of around 72. Chance of precipitation is 40 percent. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
