Edison Approves Plan For Angels Field Improvement Project
Council unanimously voted to adopt the resolution during the public hearing held last week. The cost of the project is $5.4 million.

EDISON, NJ – The Council recently adopted a resolution seeking Green Acres funds for the improvement of the Angels Field located at the intersection of Truman Avenue and Clif Prescod Lane.
The Council voted unanimously to adopt the resolution during last week’s public hearing. Edison will apply for a $2.7 million matching grant and a zero loan from New Jersey to fund the project.
Edison aims to convert the five softball fields into three new soccer fields. They are looking to build new parking along the southeastern side of the field, as well as expand the parking along Clif Prescod Lane and the entrance drive to the west of the site.

The estimated cost of the entire project is $5,445,601.34.
During the public hearing, resident Walter Stochel read a letter on behalf of the Edison Open Space Advisory Committee that reviewed the plan and made some suggestions for the project.

The suggestions included adding bicycle racks, electric vehicle charging stations, picnic tables and benches.
The site was previously owned by the U.S. Military, with Camp Kilmer located there until it was deactivated in 1949. In 1970 parts of the land was given to Edison as part of BRAC. This plot of land currently houses the Angels Field.
The Edison Angels Girls Fastpitch Softball League used the field for over 20 years. But they closed down and the field is no longer in use.
“I think this project is a big win for Edison as it not only secures the one-to-one grant match but also marks the initial stages of the revitalization of underutilized land in close proximity to Rutgers Livingston Campus and Edison Train station,” said Council President Nishith Patel said.
