EDISON, NJ — Edison Council unanimously voted to award $4.2 million in contract to Picerno Giodano Construction LLC., for improvements to football and baseball turf fields.

The vote was taken during the council meeting on March 23.

“I think this is a great investment for the township of Edison. Our kids deserve fields that meet the basic requirement for them to be able to participate in sports and to have a more active lifestyle,” Council President John Poyner said.

“We are upgrading the current fields which will help produce better athletes in the future.”

The new turf will also help bring other municipalities to Edison as the township will have an up-to-date playing surface, Poyner said.

On Tuesday, the official paperwork was sent to the desk of Mayor Sam Joshi, who said he was happy to sign and authorize work for the turf fields.

“Both Edison Jets football field and Lake Papaianni Park baseball field will now begin upgrades. Our youth deserve the best,” Joshi said.

“There were over 12 complex steps before we got to this point, but I thank the Edison Council, especially last year’s Council President, Joe Coyle, for being fully cooperative and ensuring we didn’t delay a single step. This year’s Council President, John Poyner, along with the rest of the Council followed through to make sure we move Edison forward.”
