Edison To Build $5 Million Recreational Facility For Youth Leagues

The new facility will serve as a home for Edison's youth leagues to train and practice, Mayor Sam Joshi said.

EDISON, NJ — Edison Township will be building a $5 million multi-purpose sports facility, mayor Sam Joshi announced.

The existing concession stand next to the Edison Jets football field on Central Avenue will be replaced by the new facility.

The new facility will serve as a home for Edison’s youth leagues to train and practice, Joshi said. The facility will also have two rooftop viewing decks.

Joshi said the new facility will not only drive interest and attendance but will help generate revenue for our youth leagues, including cheerleading.

“After speaking to every sports league, I was especially disappointed to learn of the conditions our youth cheerleaders were practicing in and knew we needed to make significant improvements,” Joshi said in a statement.

“With this facility our youth cheer teams can train year-round, indoors. This will help make Edison the epicenter for youth sports in the state.”

The new facility is expected to be completed in the summer of 2023. A groundbreaking ceremony is expected to be held after the season is over.

Apart from cheerleading, the facility can be used for football, basketball, lacrosse, wrestling and other sports.

Joshi said his administration is committed to making Edison “a place we're proud to call home for now and the future.”

“There's so much work to do but we're moving Edison forward,” he said.

The building of the new facility will be financed through municipal long-term bonds.
