Edison Crossing Guard Saves Family From House Fire

Lisa Lancia was working in the area when she noticed smoke billowing from a New Dover Road home and sprang into action, police said.

EDISON, NJ — A township crossing guard alerted residents to a house fire and helped them escape safely, Edison police said Friday.

Lisa Lancia, a crossing guard for Edison Township, was in the area of 835 New Dover Road on Tuesday when she spotted smoke coming from the rear of the home.

She immediately went to the front door and knocked until the occupants responded, police said.

Officers were dispatched to the address at 3:29 p.m. and found visible flames and smoke coming from the home. The homeowner and all occupants had evacuated safely before police arrived, and no injuries were reported.

"Lisa's actions were nothing more than heroic," Edison Police said on its official Facebook page. "Edison Township is grateful and thankful to have her on our team."
