Edison Daycare Teacher Charged With Abusing Toddler: Prosecutor

Authorities said the teacher physically assaulted a 2-year-old under her care.

EDISON, NJ — A daycare teacher from Edison has been arrested and charged with abusing a two-year-old child, Middlesex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone and Edison Police Chief Thomas Bryan said.

Nusrat J. Ameen, 56, was charged with abuse and neglect. Ameen “physically assaulted” a two-year-old under her care, while she worked as a head teacher at I Can Kids Childcare, 806 Route 1 North, Edison, Ciccone said.

The incident was reported to authorities on July 29. Ameen has been employed for 12 years at the daycare center that enrolls children ages 18 months to two-and-a-half years, authorities said.

The investigation was conducted by Detectives Ankur Mankad and Matthew Eitel of the Edison Police Department and Detective Olivia Ankudowicz of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office.

Ameen was arrested on Monday, processed and released pending central judicial processing, Ciccone said.
