Edison Gets $70,483 In State Funds For Road Safety
A total of $1.4 million was awarded to 54 municipalities under the state's Highway Safety Fund Program.
EDISON, NJ — The township was recently awarded $70,483 under the Highway Safety Fund Program, the Murphy Administration said. The funds will go towards keeping township roads safe.
“The Highway Safety Fund provides grants to local law enforcement, helping ensure they have the tools they need to keep our roads safe,” NJDOT Commissioner Diane Gutierrez-Scaccetti said in a statement. “The funding provides resources necessary for local governments to achieve their safety objectives without burdening local property taxpayers.”
Seven Middlesex County towns received funds under the program. They are:

- Edison: $70,483
- New Brunswick: $14,394
- North Brunswick: $73,761
- Old Bridge: $70,225
- Sayreville: $24,890
- South Amboy: $500
- South Brunswick: $7,615
The program is funded through fines, which are doubled in designated Safe Corridors for a variety of violations, including speeding. The designated spots on the state highways were selected based on crash data, traffic volume, and other highway traffic safety criteria, state officials said.
The current safe corridors include mileposts 20 to 30 between South Brunswick and Edison.
