Edison: New Pedestrian Hybrid Beacon To Be Installed

The new beacon near the Benjamin Franklin Elementary School will stop traffic to allow pedestrians safe passage across Woodbridge Avenue.

EDISON, NJ — A new pedestrian hybrid beacon will be installed in the vicinity of Benjamin Franklin Elementary School and the BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Temple in Edison, Middlesex County announced on Monday.

The hybrid beacon project is a collaboration between the Middlesex County Board of Chosen Freeholders and the BAPS temple. The county board invested $342,027, with BAPS contributing $50,000 toward the project.

The groundbreaking ceremony will take place on Tuesday, at 10 a.m.

The hybrid beacon will stop traffic to allow pedestrians safe passage across Woodbridge Avenue. The groundbreaking ceremony will be attended by Freeholder Director Ronald G. Rios, Freeholder Charles Kenny, and Freeholder Charles E. Tomaro.

The construction is anticipated to last five months.

Design and construction are being overseen by the Middlesex County Department of Transportation.

The ceremony will begin at the BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Temple parking lot on 2500 Woodbridge Avenue. The group will then move to the actual groundbreaking site on the Benjamin Franklin Elementary School-side of Woodbridge Avenue.

The event is open to the public.
