Edison Police Raise $10.6K For Cancer Research
No-Shave November came to an end last night for Edison police, who raised over $10,000 in the process.

EDISON, NJ — It's December 1st, and that means the end of No-Shave November. During the past 30 days, Edison police officers grew beards and raised over $10,000 for cancer research.
Over 50 officers pledged at least $50 to participate. The department raised $10,650 to be donated to the American Cancer Society, Prevent Cancer Foundation, Fight Colorectal Cancer and St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
“Our police officers stepped up to this challenge, once again demonstrating the spirit of giving and their concern for our community,” Chief Thomas Bryan said. “On-duty officers sporting facial hair sparked many conversations with curious residents,. This gave them a chance to discuss cancer-related health issues and encourage people to go for early-detection screenings."

Beards are usually not allowed for police officers, but Mayor Thomas Lankey suspended the rules. As of Dec. 1, though, all beards have to go. Barbers at World of Beards in Metuchen donated their time to get officers clean shaven again.
