Edison Seeks To Acquire New Land For Building School, Says Mayor
To address overcrowding officials were looking to purchase land to build a new school, Sam Joshi said during the State of the Township.
EDISON, NJ — During his State of the Township address, Mayor Sam Joshi announced that his administration is looking to purchase a new plot of land at Talmadge Road for schools.
Joshi addressed the overcrowding in the school district saying it was an issue every resident was aware of.
With Gov. Phil Murphy announcing an increase of $11,756,093 in state aid to the school district, the Board of Education is “now sitting on a surplus of $30 million,” said Joshi.

However, the BOE is yet to create a plan to address the overcrowding, he said.
“As mayor, I promised to help secure land that will address the overcrowding crisis in our schools. And I’m proud to say that my administration and the Council are committed to acquiring nearly 10 acres of land on Talmadge Road, centrally located to all of Edison, for the purpose of building a brand new school,” Joshi said.

The Mayor said that this land acquisition is to protect the future and families from excessive over-development.
“Edison is a special place. We must continue to create projects are programs that improve the quality of life for Edison residents,” Joshi said.
An ordinance is yet to be introduced for the acquisition of the land. The ordinance authorizing $9 million for the purchase of the property was pulled from last week’s Council meeting agenda.
