Edison Teen Struck By Vehicle While Crossing Street In Heavy Rain

A high school student was seriously injured after being hit by a Jeep in a marked crosswalk during heavy rain, police said.

EDISON, NJ — A 14-year-old Edison High School student was hospitalized with a traumatic head injury Thursday evening after being struck by a vehicle while crossing a street in a marked crosswalk, officials said.

The girl was hit by a 2025 Jeep Wrangler while crossing Old Post Road at the Boulevard of the Eagles around 6:45 p.m. on March 5, Edison Police said.

The driver, a 56-year-old Metuchen man, remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators.

The teen was taken to Robert Wood Johnson Hospital, where she remained in stable condition.

Conditions at the time of the crash included heavy rain and darkness, police said. Authorities noted the crosswalk beacons were activated and illuminated at the time of the crash, and the girl was wearing dark clothing.

No criminal charges are expected, officials said. The investigation is ongoing.
