First Day Of School Pushed Up In Edison For 2018-19 School Year
The change was made to add more snow days, and the district is working on adding even more.

EDISON, NJ — Edison students will go back to school in September 2018 one day earlier than planned, and the district is working to push back the end of the school year.
The Board of Education voted at Monday night's meeting to push the start of the school year up to Sept. 4 in order to add another snow day to the calendar. Originally, Edison only had one snow day built in for the 2018-2019 snow day, but now will have two.
In addition to changing the first day of school, they're also looking to change the last day. Board president Jerry Shi told Patch they're working with Rutgers to try and move graduation to either June 21 or 22 (it is currently scheduled for June 19). The district was originally told the Rutgers Athletic Center, where graduation is held, was booked on the 21st, Shi told Patch last month.

The board is hoping to confirm a date change for graduation with Rutgers by next month's meeting.
Sept. 4 will be a single session day, so students will be dismissed several hours earlier than on a regular school day. The day was previously a staff in-service.

The late season snow storms this year sent school officials scrambling to change the calendar for next year. The 2017-2018 school year had two days built in; they used five. To make up the days, students lost three days of a five day spring break.
