Full-Day Kindergarten Will Begin This September In Edison
After a long hiatus, Edison Township Public Schools is bringing back full-day kindergarten for district families.
EDISON, NJ — One of New Jersey’s largest school districts will offer full-day kindergarten this fall.
The Edison Board of Education made the announcement to start full-day kindergarten recently. Around 12 years ago, the district adopted a half-day program due to statewide budget cuts.
Superintendent Bernard Bragen made a public announcement on Wednesday. “Our Board of Education in our community has for some time now worked diligently to bring back full-day kindergarten for all our eligible 5-year-old students,” Bragen said in a video message.

“We are happy to report that for September 2022, we will have full-day kindergarten.”
Bragen told MyCentralJersey.com that the decision to restore the program was based on research that supported the academic and social-emotional benefits of full-day kindergarten.

Board member Doug Schneider told Patch that the decision was not made "quickly."
"Our administrative team led by Dr. Bragen has been working towards bringing back full-day kindergarten for quite some time. The program is a huge benefit to those working families who previously sent their children to private schools for full-day learning," said Schneider.
"Study after study shows the benefit of kindergarten education and we are proud to offer it after a long hiatus," he said.
School hours will be 8:55 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Students born before Oct. 1, 2017, are eligible to enroll in the program.
