Guilty Plea From Edison Woman Who Killed Friend In Drunk Crash

Ashley Gergits faces up to eight years in jail for causing the death of her friend, Jenna Adamousky, earlier this year.

EDISON, NJ — An Edison woman has pled guilty to vehicular homicide in connection to the drunk crash that killed her friend earlier this year, Middlesex County Prosecutor Andrew C. Carey said.

Ashley Gergits, 20, of Edison, pleaded guilty to vehicular homicide, assault by auto and driving while intoxicated. Gergits was driving the night of Feb. 16 when she crashed the car on Rt. 27 in Highland Park, killing her friend, 21-year-old Jenna Adamousky.

Gergitis struck a bridge abutment, bounced off and struck a car waiting at a red light driving late at night, Carey said. Adamousky was killed, and two male passengers in the car were injured. The driver of the other car, a 31-year-old from New York, was taken to a nearby hospital with injuries.

Under a plea agreement, Gergitis faces up to eight years in prison, and the term is subject to the No Early Release Act, meaning she would have to serve nearly seven years before being eligible for parole. She also faces the loss of her license for 15 years.

She will be sentenced on Sept. 4.
