Here's How Metuchen High School Ranks Among NJ's Best, New Report Shows

U.S. News placed the school 56th statewide in its 2026-27 Best High Schools report.

METUCHEN, NJ — Metuchen High School ranked No. 990 nationally and 56th in New Jersey in U.S. News & World Report's 2026-2027 Best High Schools rankings, released Tuesday, Aug. 18, a slight dip from last year's ranking of 45th in the state.

The rankings evaluated Metuchen High School against 17,945 nationally ranked schools and 415 ranked schools in New Jersey. The school ranked No. 70 in the state for College Readiness Index and No. 61 for College Curriculum Breadth Index. It ranked No. 43 in the state for State Assessment Proficiency and No. 72 for State Assessment Performance.

Metuchen High School's graduation rate is 96 percent, somewhat above the state median. The school has 60 full-time equivalent teachers.

The AP participation rate at Metuchen High School is 58 percent, according to U.S. News. The school's 12th grade enrollment is 180 students, and 9 percent of students are economically disadvantaged. Metuchen High School is the only high school in the Metuchen Public School District.

The rankings are based on six performance measures, including student achievement on state-required assessments, graduation rates and college readiness. U.S. News also considers how well schools serve underserved students, participation and performance on Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate exams, curriculum breadth and overall student outcomes.

The rankings use data from the 2023-2024 school year and were produced with research firm RTI International.
