Large Weekend Dance Party Broken Up By Metuchen Police

Police said over 400 people were at a party at the first aid squad, which only holds 90.

METUCHEN, NJ — Metuchen Police broke up a dance party at the first aid squad after the crowd grew to over quadruple the capacity of the space, police told Patch.

Police were called to the First Aid Squad rental hall around 9:21 p.m. on Friday when an attendee reported a fight and that someone had gone to get a gun. Officers found over 400 people, mostly teens and young adults, at the hall which is only meant to hold 90. (Police said 200 were inside, and 200 were outside the hall.)

Although there was no fight or gun, police broke the party up over crowd size concerns. Police said the crowd became defiant, and that "some individuals climbed and danced on patrol cars while leaving the area."
