Delivery Man Impersonator Enters Edison Home, Waves Fake Gun At Resident: PD

Edison Police engaged in a 40-minute car chase that went through Piscataway, Middlesex, South Plainfield and Dunellen.

EDISON, NJ — Three people were charged after a burglary attempt in Edison led police on a car and foot chase across four towns at least, police said. No one was injured.

On Tuesday evening at 7:17 p.m. a woman from College Drive called Edison police saying a man knocked on her door pretending to be a delivery person.

When she opened the door, the man brandished a gun and took her to the bedroom, demanding she hand over all her money, Deputy Police Chief Robert Dudash told Patch.

The man ransacked the bedroom and then fled the home in an unknown direction, Dudash said.

Officer Phil Smith of the Edison Police Department saw a 2015 Audi A6 with no taillights leave the same apartment complex. Police engaged in a car chase that lasted for 40 minutes, Dudash said.

The chase which started in Edison went through neighboring towns like Piscataway, Middlesex, South Plainfield and Dunellen, Dudash said.

The car chase finally ended when the Audi reached the dead end of a cul-de-sac in Piscataway.

Two men got down from the vehicle and took police on a foot chase, Dudash said. During the foot chase, Piscataway Police had asked residents in areas of Randolphville Road and Grandview Avenue to remain inside their homes.

One of the men was caught immediately, but the other eluded the police at the time. The second man was apprehended later in Dunellen. According to Dudash, the man’s girlfriend picked him up while he was being chased by police on foot.

Trevor Bell, 24, of North Plainfield was the driver of the car and he was apprehended near the vehicle. He was charged with conspiracy to commit burglary, and conspiracy to commit robbery among other charges.

The second man was picked up later by police at his girlfriend’s home in Dunellen. Giovanny Burgos-Diaz, 21 of Somerset was charged with conspiracy to commit burglary, possession of a handgun, resisting arrest and other charges.

Burgos-Diaz's girlfriend, Melissa Moffett-Davis was also charged, Dudash said.

Following the arrests, police issued a search warrant to look for the handgun. What officers found instead was a fake gun, much like an air gun, which looked real, Dudash said.

“Edison Police would like to thank Piscataway Police, New Jersey State Police Dunellen Police and Plainfield Police for assistance in the pursuit and apprehension," Dudash said.

Burgos-Diaz and Bell were taken to the Middlesex County Correctional Center and Moffett-Davis was released from Edison Police headquarters, Dudash said.
