The Menorah lighting will be held at the Borough Plaza, 4:30 p.m. on Sunday.

METUCHEN, NJ - The Jewish community will be celebrating Hannukah from Sunday, Dec. 18 through Monday, Dec.26.

Metuchen will light the Menorah in the Borough Plaza on Sunday at 4:30 p.m.

There will be hot cocoa, donuts, gelt, and dreidels. Wondering what gelt is? The word “gelt” means “money”, but in most cases, it's chocolate rounds wrapped in foil to resemble coins.

The evening will also feature Singing and music to celebrate with Temple Emanu-El, Neve Shalom, Metuchen Edison Area Interfaith Clergy Association, and the Recreation Department.

Hanukkah is the Hebrew word for dedication. The eight-day observance commemorates the reconsecration of the Second Temple of Jerusalem after the Jewish community rose up against their Greek-Syrian oppressors in the Maccabean Revolt in Second Century B.C.
