Metuchen School Evacuated Over Student's Statement: Police

An Edgar Middle School student made a statement to two other students that caused "concern" among authorities, police said.

METUCHEN NJ — Police on Thursday evacuated a middle school in Metuchen after a student made statements that caused concern among authorities.

According to police, an Edgar Middle School student made a statement to two different students that caused “the school and police to become concerned.”

Out of an abundance of caution, and keeping everyone’s safety in mind, the police evacuated the school.

Students and staff were able to return once police deemed the school safe, Superintendent Vincent Caputo said in a statement.

No other information is available at this time. The investigation is currently ongoing.
