Murphy Vs. Ciattarelli: How Edison-Metuchen Voted

In the closest gubernatorial election in decades, here's a look at how Edison and Metuchen voted.

EDISON, NJ — It has been the closest gubernatorial race in decades. With the race declared for Phil Murphy over Jack Ciattarelli with 98 percent of the votes counted statewide, here's a look at how Edison and Metuchen voted.

The voter turnout in Middlesex was 33.04 percent, according to unofficial tallies published by the county as of 11 a.m. Friday. The county has 582,828 registered voters and 192,590 cast their ballots.

According to updated results on Friday evening, in Edison, 40.27 percent of the township's voters cast their ballots for Ciattarelli and 58.66 percent voted for Murphy. In Metuchen, Murphy received 64.27 percent votes, while Ciattarelli got 34.37 percent votes.

The official election results will be determined at the Board of Canvassers meeting on Nov. 15 and the County Clerk must certify official election results to the Secretary of State by Nov. 20.

As of 11 a.m. Friday, Murphy had a margin of 56,624 votes — 1,271,381 to 1,214,757 according to the Associated Press.

For the NJ 18 District race, veteran Democrat Patrick Diegnan got 13, 154 votes and Republican Vihal Patel received 8,331 votes in Edison. Diegnan maintained his lead over Patel in Metuchen, receiving 3,152 votes and 1,506 votes respectively.

All ballots postmarked before November 2, will be counted until November 8.
