North Carolina Man Charged With Burglary In Metuchen

When officers arrived at the home on Jonesdale Avenue, the North Carolina man answered the door, police said.

METUCHEN, NJ — A man from North Carolina was charged with burglary after he entered a home and told police he was the owner, Metuchen Police said Tuesday.

On Nov. 25, a resident of Jonesdale Avenue called the police and told them he saw an unknown man in his neighbor’s backyard.

Patrol was already investigating a similar call on Woodbridge Avenue involving a suspect with a similar description, police said.

When officers arrived at the residence on Jonesdale Avenue, they surrounded the home.

Officers then entered the home through an unsecured back door. When they entered, Marcus Harris, 43, of South Fairmont, NC came out the front door and told police that he was the homeowner, authorities said.

After making inquiries police determined Harris was not the homeowner nor had any legitimate reason to be in the residence, police said.

Harris was charged with burglary and defiant trespass.
