Passenger In Fatal Edison Crash Identified: Prosecutor

Meyvelin Nunez-Lopez, 19, of Plainfield died after the car he was traveling in struck a tree on Tuesday night, authorities said.

EDISON, NJ — A Plainfield man was identified as the passenger who was killed after a car struck a tree in Edison on Feb, 8.

Meyvelin Nunez-Lopez, 19, of Plainfield was the front-seat passenger who died in the fatal crash on Tuesday night, Middlesex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone and Chief Thomas Bryan of the Edison Police Department said Friday.

On Tuesday, at 10:17 p.m., authorities responded to the southbound lane of Route 1 in the area of Jeff Street following the report of a crash. On their arrival, officers found a vehicle with four occupants, which had struck a tree.

The driver of the vehicle, Ziyad Elsaedi, 21, of North Plainfield, and Nunez-Lopez, who was the front passenger, were taken to a nearby hospital along with two other critically-injured passengers, Ciccone said.

Elsaedi and Nunez-Lopez were later pronounced dead at the hospital, Ciccone said. There is no information yet on the condition or identities of the remaining two passengers.
