Rev. Garry of First Presbyterian Church of Metuchen to P

METUCHEN, NEW JERSEY (November 1, 2018) –The First Presbyterian Church (“FPC”) of Metuchen today announced that Rev. Dr. Fred Garry will preach his first sermon at FPC as its newly-elected senior pastor on Sunday, November 18, 2018. All are invited to attend in the community.

Rev. Garry will shepherd FPC’s 600-plus member congregation and spearhead its vision to be an “inclusive, connected and loving community mobilized to serve Jesus Christ.”

“We look forward to hearing Rev. Garry’s first sermon as our new senior pastor on November 18, and welcome his leadership to our church,” said Jan Margolis, co-chair of the FPC Nominating Committee. “He is a spiritually well grounded, and compelling preacher, who will lead and support our congregation’s spiritual growth and act to bolster our vision and mission.”

Formerly, Rev. Garry served as the senior pastor of the First Presbyterian Church of Watertown in Watertown, New York. Since 1994, he has served as an accomplished minister in the Presbyterian Church and acted as the senior pastor for several Presbyterian Church congregations.

Rev. Garry holds a Doctorate Degree in Ministry, a Masters in Theology, and a Masters in Divinity from Princeton Theological Seminary, in Princeton, New Jersey. He is past-president of the Rotary Club and has served on numerous boards including the YMCA Board of Directors. He is the immediate past chair of the board for Samaritan Medical Health Systems in Watertown, New York.

Rev. Garry has also led several community efforts and campaigns. In 2004, he was named President of Urban Mission and helped them re-design their board structure, relocate and revamp their thrift shop and hire a new executive director.
