Somerset Student Spotlighted by Scripps National Spelling Bee Ahead of Washington, D.C. Competition
A Cedar Hill Prep 7th grader is headed to the Scripps National Spelling Bee in D.C.

Cedar Hill Preparatory School seventh grader Yajur Subramaniam is officially on the national radar. Scripps has featured the 12-year-old Somerset student in their official "Meet the Spellers" showcase — one of only 243 competitors highlighted from a pool of 11 million students across the country — ahead of the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C.
The feature puts Cedar Hill Prep's name in front of audiences nationwide, a proud milestone for the Somerset school.
But spelling is just one part of Yajur's story. He is an avid quiz bowl competitor who recently competed at the Junior Varsity IAC Nationals in Arlington, Virginia. He also won first place at the International Piano Competition in Osimo, Italy this past December and performed at Carnegie Hall. His favorite subjects are Social Studies, Geography, and History — and he has his sights set on becoming a U.S. Ambassador someday.
