Spooky October: 2022 Guide To Halloween Festivities In Metuchen

A host of spooktacular events are planned in Metuchen this month. Here's a quick look:

METUCHEN, NJ — October is here and so is spooky season. A variety of creepy and cool events have been scheduled in the Borough for residents to participate in throughout the month.

Experience the chills and thrills of the season with the following events:

Halloween Painting Contest: Students from K-4 can participate in the Halloween Painting Contest at Campbell School. Along with their creative ideas, they should bring their own smocks, assorted paint brushes and pencils. The event is being organized by the Recreation Department which will supply paper and paint. Winning posters will be displayed at What's The Scoop. Posters may be picked up at The Senior Center (home of Recreation) after Nov. 1.

Pumpkin Decoration & Float: This is a Metuchen tradition. Residents can paint their pumpkins at The Senior Center, build a craft, and have a snack. Parents will take the pumpkin home with them and bring the pumpkin and kids to Tommy Pond at 7 p.m. for The Float. Pumpkins will be set out to float on the pond with assistance from the Department of Public Works. There will also be a family concert by Rockness. Children can take their pumpkins home after the float.

Halloween House Decorating Contest: Let the spookiest house in the Borough win. If you think you can scare residents with your Halloween decoration, then you should participate in the Halloween House Decorating Contest. Registration ends Oct. 21. Judges will view all the entries the following week and choose a winner.

Haunted Downtown: On Oct. 29, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Metuchen Downtown Alliance and Metuchen Recreation Department will be hosting Haunted Downtown. Expect family-friendly spooky activities.
