Two People, Dog Killed In Edison Fire, Mayor Says

Breaking: Two people were killed in a fire that broke out in a home on Jill Court Wednesday in Edison, confirmed Edison Mayor Thomas Lankey.

EDISON, NJ — Two people and a dog were killed in a fire that broke out in a home on Jill Court Wednesday in Edison, confirmed Edison Mayor Thomas Lankey in a press release.

The fire broke out shortly after 2 p.m. A dog died in the fire as well, according to the Middlesex County Prosecutor's office.

The victims, whose identities have not been confirmed, were discovered shortly after the fire broke out in a duplex home on Jill Court at approximately 2:21 p.m. One victim was pronounced dead at the scene; the other was taken to Robert Wood Johnson Hospital but died shortly after, said the prosecutor's office.

NJ.com is reporting that one of the victims was a child, but that has not been confirmed.

The two-alarm fire caused extensive damage to the home, said the county prosecutor.

"Although the information is not fully confirmed, at this point we understand two people perished in a fire on Jill Court today," said the town in a press release distributed to the media late Wednesday afternoon.

"We have no information on injuries to others. We extend our sympathies to the family," read the release.

"We extend our sympathies to the family," said Edison Business Administrator Maureen Ruane in a statement. "The Township will not offer any further comment on this tragedy."

She referred all further questions to the Middlesex County prosecutor's office, which investigates all fatal fires.

The unofficial Edison Fire Dept. Facebook page reported they responded to a fire at the two-story home this afternoon, and that there was a possible entrapment.
