In a video of the Dollar Store robbery, above, masked robbers can be seen beating an employee, Syed Ashraf, where he sat behind the counter.
One robber pointed a gun at Ashraf, but he fought back after seeing the bullets fall out of it, he told NBC 4 NY. Another employee, Antonio Barrios, hit one of the robbers over the head with a chair before running outside to call for help.

Dudash said it was "highly unlikely" the two incidents were gang related, but that "there are extra patrols in the area checking businesses with high visibility to ensure the safety of all who use the shopping center."
Edison Police did not respond to multiple requests for more information on the incidents.
