18 People Caught Stealing Turf From Vacant Bergen County Business: Police

Fair Lawn? More like filched lawn.

FAIR LAWN, NJ — Eighteen people were arrested in Fair Lawn on Tuesday after they were caught stealing turf from outside a vacant building, police said.

All 18 were arrested around 10:13 p.m. for taking astroturf from a property on River Road and Hopper Avenue, said Sgt. Eric Eleshewich.

The suspects ranged in age from 18 to 43, he said.

Eleshewich said he could not give more details because Fair Lawn police are investigating along with the New York Police Department.

He said he didn't know the motive.

"It is a very strange thing to steal, and have never seen that before," he said.
