BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — A Saddle Brook man was charged Friday with attempted murder and aggravated arson after leaving a seriously burned woman in the woods in Ocean County, prosecutors said.
Justin D. Martin, 36, was arrested in Asbury Park, said Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley Billhimer on Friday.
A release from Billheimer's office said that Martin caused the woman to be burned, then drove away, leaving her stranded in Plumsted Township.
Around 1:36 p.m. on Oct. 15, prosecutors say, authorities received a 911 call about a female burn victim. They found her to be "in distress and suffering from burns." She was taken to the Temple University Burn Center in Philadelphia, where she is listed in stable condition, officials say.
Officials say that the pair were in the wooded area, and Martin "caused the victim to suffer burns and smoke inhalation."
