BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — After two children were hospitalized on Thursday night following an e-bike crash, one is in a medically induced coma, a fundraiser says.
"My brother was hit by a car while riding an e-bike around 7 p.m. on October 22, and our family's world changed instantly," the fundraiser says. "He was unconscious after the accident and is now in a medically induced coma. Since then, he has had life-saving brain surgery, including the removal of part of his skull. He also suffered a severely broken hip and a torn leg."
The fundraiser had amassed $24,000 of a $100,000 goal by Saturday afternoon.
Police told Patch on Friday that two children were taken to the hospital on Thursday night after their e-bike slammed into another vehicle in Saddle Brook.
Captain Giuseppe Califano confirmed that the youths were riding one bike when they hit a car near the intersection of Schepis and North Midland avenues on Thursday, around 6:30 p.m.
Both children were taken to the hospital to be treated for serious injuries, Chief John Zotollo said in a release issued late Friday.
Police said no other details are available for now, and are still investigating, along with county law enforcement.
