Bergen County Child Ingests Controlled Substances, Charges Filed: Prosecutor
A Fair Lawn woman is charged with child endangerment after an unresponsive two-year-old was taken to a local hospital, officials said.
FAIR LAWN, NJ — A Fair Lawn bartender has been arrested after an unresponsive two-year-old was brought into Hackensack University Medical Center in late August, the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office said.
Mariel Devargas is charged with one count of child endangerment following an investigation by the prosecutor's office and Fair Lawn Police Department. According to officials, a medical evaluation determined that the child had ingested illegal controlled substances.
Devargas was arrested on Sept. 3 and taken to Bergen County Jail, where she awaits a first appearance in court.

The Prosecutor's Office didn't immediately respond to questions about the current health status of the child.
