Partial Bullet Found In Hallway Prompted School Lockdown, Police Say

Midland Park Police and the Bergen County Sheriff's Department were at Midland Park High School Wednesday.

Part of a bullet in a hallway at Midland Park High School prompted the lockdown at all the district's schools Wednesday and an ongoing investigation by local and county law enforcement officials.

Police received a call shortly before 10 a.m. reporting someone found a "suspicious item," which was the "projectile portion" of a bullet, said Midland Park Police Chief Michael Powderley.

All district schools were placed on a shelter-in-place lockdown, but not evacuated, Powderley said.

Police officers and Bergen County Sheriff's Office K9 Unit were at Midland Park High School Wednesday morning and searched the school for bombs, but found nothing suspicious, Powderley said.

The lockdown was lifted at about noon, police said.

"At this time, we don't know how it got into the school," Powderley said.

Powdereley said night school classes are held at the school and are continuing their investigation as to how the bullet fragment may have gotten inside.

Police informed the public about the lockdown on social media.
