Adopt-A-Soldier Platoon was started by Alan Krutchkoff in 2003. After a minor car accident involving Alan's wife Mary Edna and a women whose son in law had been deployed to Iraq, Alan was inspired. The idea of adopting a service member who was deployed overseas and sending them packages was born. Adopt-A-Soldier Platoon has done more than just send packages to those in harms way. Alan and his Platoon are instrumental in finding aid and support for our wounded heroes as well and helping them with their transition.
But today was about packing and getting these packages to the adopted units ASAP. With the change in seasons fast approaching these boxes were a pre holiday blitz to bring a little bit of home to these brave men and women stationed all over Afghanistan.
The Adopt A Soldier Platoon, Platoon was hitting on all cylinders and packed up 75 boxes containing; Lipton Peach Ice Tea packets, Axe Shower Gel, Girl Scout Cookies, Red Twizzlers, Video Games, DVD Movies, Power Bars, Baby wipes, tissues, candy, coffee, Jets and Giants magazines, t-shirts you name it. Hats off to Unilever Corp. for all their support and generosity.

Just as important were the cards and letters collected from youngsters who want to show their appreciation. Hundreds of thank you cards were put in the boxes for the troops to read. Knowing that the folks back home are thinking of them is a great morale booster. The Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard, Reservists and National Guard all thrive on morale. When they come back from a patrol and they are hot, cold, tired, hungry, dry, wet, lonely. A package from home can make it all worthwhile. High morale helps keep our troops safe and Alan and his Platoon are all about keeping morale high.
There is no way to fully thank Alan and his Platoon for all they have done and continue to do for our troops. Its time to get involved and support our men and women in uniform. The holidays will be here soon and our troops will be in a far away place in some godforsaken corner of the earth fighting a war that is in its second decade. The website is adoptasoldierplatoon.org there is plenty you can do for these brave warriors and their families who sacrifice for this country and keep us safe.
