Toastmasters International was founded with the idea that, given the right tools and support, anyone can be a great public speaker and communicator. Joining a club will help you harness your ability to speak confidently and effectively, in a supportive, collaborative environment. Members join to improve their speaking skills for things like meetings, presentations, community involvement, effective persuasion, social settings, networking – you name it! Many members join with a fear of public speaking and come out of it with the confidence to present in front of any audience.

Becoming a member allows you to improve your public speaking skills by coming up with and presenting speeches to the members of your club. But that is not the only benefit. Members improve their leadership skills through taking on roles during meetings, such as: Timer (timing speeches, table topics, etc.), Ah Counter (counting the amount of ‘ums’ and ‘ahs’ during the meeting) and Toastmaster (coming up with and presenting a theme for the meeting and orchestrating the meeting parts to ensure a smoothly run meeting) – to name a few. There are also opportunities to run for officer roles for each club. Other perks are improving networking skills and gaining networking opportunities, building confidence and maximizing your personal growth.

There are clubs all over the world so when you are ready to join Toastmasters, it’s important to find one that’s right for you. Most clubs let you try them out to see if you feel that you are a good fit. This club, Clifton Toastmasters, is located in Clifton, NJ. Some clubs have certain requirements or are only open to specific companies, but Clifton Toastmasters is open to everyone over the age of 18 and welcomes those from all speaking levels. Whether you are a beginner who is looking to let go of a fear of public speaking or are a more confident speaker who just wants to harness their skills and speak more effectively, all are welcome! The club’s main goal is to help members improve their public speaking and leadership skills. Members of Clifton Toastmasters are incredibly diverse, spanning a variety of age ranges, cultural backgrounds, career paths, etc. The vibe is open, inclusive, and friendly, which makes practicing one's public speaking skills a less terrifying prospect. It’s a non-threatening, judgement-free group, all rooting for each other to succeed.
