CBS News to Film Segment on Town Crier

Tim Yuskaitis was officially appointed Fair Lawn's town crier last January.

For a change this Tuesday, Patch won't be the only media source at Fair Lawn's borough council meeting.

CBS News will be on hand to film a segment on .

Yuskaitis, who was also featured in an article in Friday's Bergen Record, will make an appearance Tuesday night to read a proclamation for Women's History Month.

Town criers like Yuskaitis have the ceremonial role of making dramatic announcements while wearing medieval or colonial-style costumes at town events.

Yuskaitis' interest in becoming a town crier was piqued early last year after he read a Star-Ledger story about a crier in Sussex County, who was one of a handful of criers that existed in New Jersey at the time.

After contacting and joining the American Guild of Town Criers, Yuskaitis expressed his interest in crying for Fair Lawn to then-Deputy mayor Joe Tedeschi.

On Jan. 11 of last year, the council agreed to draft a resolution to establish the position of town crier, and a couple weeks later. Since becoming Fair Lawn's official town crier, he's made proclamations at , and , among other events.

Yuskaitis, a New Jersey Transit police officer and long-time volunteer with the , has been vying for the position of county crier since last year, but his request is still under consideration by the Board of Chosen Freeholders.
