Cooling Centers To Open In Fair Lawn This Week

The first heatwave of the summer is expected to blanket North Jersey with 90-degree temperatures Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday.

FAIR LAWN, N.J. — The borough will operate three cooling centers this week during the first heatwave of 2016.

Forecasters say temperatures will go up to the 90s and stay that way during the day through the end of the week. With the humidity, the temperatures could feel hotter. Temperatures will go up to 93 in some parts of the state.

The Fair Lawn Community Center, senior center, memorial pool, and library will be used as cooling centers. Residents may visit the facilities during the day to cool down.

The senior center will be open weekdays 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturdays from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and Sundays from noon to 3 p.m.

The community center will be open from 6:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Saturdays and Sundays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The library will be open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday from 10 to 9 p.m., Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The borough pool is from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., seven days a week. Resident day passes cost $10 a day on weekdays and $20 on weekends.
