Fair Lawn Burglar Caught After Man Gets Alert On Smartphone: Cops

Breaking: The resident saw Junior Perales take things out of his shed after he got an alert from his home security system: Police.

FAIR LAWN, NJ — A man was arrested Wednesday after a resident caught him breaking into his shed thanks to an alert on his smartphone, police announced.

The homeowner contacted police after he got an alert on his phone from his home surveillance system. He saw a man taking items from a shed in his backyard, said Sgt. Brian Metzler.

Police responded to the Morlot Avenue home at 12:22 p.m. and found Junior Perales, 31, of Passaic there. They captured Perales on the front yard of the home, Metzler said.

Perales used a bicycle to get to the house that was reported stolen from a 6th Street home April 14, the sergeant said.

Perales is being held at Fair Lawn Police headquarters, Metzler said. He will be charged with burglary, theft, trespassing, possession of burglary tools, and receiving stolen property.

Perales is being investigated for other burglaries in and around Fair Lawn. Anyone with information about any other incidents is asked to call Detective Mark Wyka at 201-794-5410.
