Fair Lawn Family Displaced After 2-Alarm Fire

Breaking: An online campaign was started to help the Milnes family.

FAIR LAWN, NJ — A borough family is displaced after a two-alarm fire severely damaged their house Saturday night.

Fair Lawn firefighters, police officers and the rescue squad responded to fire at 87 Pomona Ave. just before 11:30 p.m., said Sgt. Brian Metzler.

The initial report was that there was a fire in the house's basement, which spread to first floor, Metzler said. The Milnes family was safely evacuated.

Neither the family nor emergency personnel reported any injuries.

Authorities are trying to determine what caused the fire, but it does not appear suspicious, the sergeant said.

The Milnes' lost a lot of their possessions in the fire.

A gofundme campaign was established Sunday to help the family. More than $5,500 was donated to the campaign within five hours of it going live.

Steve Milnes is Fair Lawn auxiliary police officer and a volunteer Rescue Squad member. Jackie Miles is a preschool teacher.

"Suffering the devastation of a house fire is unimaginable, and these three kind-hearted friends of ours and their parents need their community's support," Jennifer Ferreira said on the gofundme page.
