Fair Lawn Hero Honored By Congressman Gottheimer

18 people were given the Hometown Hero Award by Congressman Josh Gottheimer at a ceremony at Holy Name Hospital Monday.

FAIR LAWN, NJ — The borough's Special Police chief was honored for his work by Rep. Josh Gottheimer (NJ-5th).

Nick Magarelli was one of 18 people honored Monday at the inaugural Hometown Heroes Awards ceremony at Holy Name Hospital in Teaneck.

Magarelli is chief of the Fair Lawn Special Police force and serves as director of veterans affairs for the borough. He has created programs that benefit and honor local veterans.

"We thank Nick for his service and the leadership he has given to the Fair Lawn Police Force and for wearing blue to protect us and our families," Gottheimer said in a statement.

The 19 awardees, including Holy Name Medical Center, were nominated by neighbors, coworkers, friends and family members.

"They are our veterans, our firefighters, our first responders, our educators, and our family — our brothers and sisters and our sons and daughters," Gottheimer said. "None of these people stood up because they sought recognition, they did it because they wanted to do what was right.”
